Catcher Work

“You can’t stop a teacher when they want to do something. They just do it.”—Holden Caulfield

Since my English 9 class ran out of time on Thursday, I wanted to post what we should have done (and what our Source Book should look like) for Monday (Block B) or Tuesday (Block J).

Source Book Table of Contents:
5. “Mannequin” Journal (we completed this in class)
6. Duck Chart (reserve one page for this–we’ll work on this on Monday / Tuesday)
7. Quotes, Notes and Questions Log (click to see example–reserve two sheets in Source Book for this). We will complete quotes for each reading assignment for the rest of the book. For the reading due Monday/Tuesday (through Chapter 14), you should have two entries completed in this chart.

Lastly, I wanted to post my “Mannequin” Journal Entires (Just click to read) that I completed with my two English 9 classes in order to serve as an example of the possibilities that journaling can allow. But please keep in mind that this is my decision to publish my journal, and that I will never ask you to have another student read your entries. For the most part, we will use journaling as a private thinking activity that we can use as a springboard for class discussions, projects, and even ideas for formal papers. If you want to read more about this idea of “journaling” for “freewriting,” please see my post from a few days ago on this topic.
