The ISS Film Club is a new club at the International School of Stavanger that is open to anyone who is interested in filmmaking, film-watching, or even film-talking. Currently, we are supporting the 2008 ISS Short Movie Contest (as well as planning some entries for the contest), and we are also deciding on movies to screen after school for club members to enjoy. We meet Thursdays at lunch in Mr. Quale’s classroom (213), and new members are always welcome. I have also dedicated a Discussion Board reserved specifically for ISS Film Club ideas–please feel free to respond to ideas on it, or to post a new one.
Past Screenings:
Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind (2008)
Wednesday, October 1st
18:00-20:00 in the ISS Lovelace Theater
Visionary filmmaker Michel Gondry (of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotles Mind fame) is in his element directing this quirky film about two friends who turn Lo-Fi filmmakers once they realize that one of them has accidentally erased all the videos in their rental store after becoming suspiciously “magnetized.” Armed with a video camera from circa 1986, no means of editing, and only sets, actors and costumes that they can find and create around them, they have to creatively remake movies (ranging from Ghostbusters to Driving Miss Daisy) for expectant renters.
Visit the Be Kind Rewind website for more fun.
Wes Anderson’s Rushmore (1998)
Monday, September 1st
17:45-20:00 in the ISS Lovelace Theater

Max Fischer is an ambitious 15-year-old who attends the private prep. school Rushmore Academy. He’s the king of extracurricular activities and can always be found writing and directing school plays; he is also one of the school’s worst students. As if “sudden death academic probation” isn’t enough on Max’s plate, everything becomes even more complicated when Max and his new friend Herman Bluhm (a wealthy steel tycoon with a failing marriage) vie for the affection of one Miss Cross, a new teacher at Rushmore.
Rushmore stars Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray. Directed by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) and written by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson.
