WWI Writing Ideas and Reminders

An interesting song by The Decemberists

“The Soldiering Life”

My 10th graders listened to this in class, but I wanted to give them another opportunity.  (The album art to the left–just click on it to enlarge–is also quite interesting.)

Introduction Reminders
Remember that we have three main things to do in our introduction to our writing project:

1.  Introduce our project by explaining the “thread” that connects our writing pieces together.

2.  Reflect on the process of writing this project.

3.  Justify our creative narrative and poetry pieces.

Some Dedication Examples

From Alice Walker’s Novel The Color Purple

To the Spirit:

Without whose assistance

Neither this book

Nor I

Would have been

Written.

From Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings:

This book is dedicated to

My son, Guy Johnson,

and all the strong

black birds of promise

who defy the odds and gods

and sing their songs

Yay for The Decemberists!
Is this for T.S. Eliot?
